Empress of Sol
In the early days of Martian colonization, most colonies were built either underground or in craters and canyons. The craters and canyons were often “roofed” with large pieces of transparent plastic sheeting.
Glassdome was the first city built on an open plain. The colonists built a large kiln and glass rolling factory. They scooped in regolith and fines directly off the plain, dumped them in the kiln and made glass. The glass triangles were ten feet on a side and three inches thick. The dome still stands today at over a thousand feet high. Not a single sheet, even in the worst dust storms, have been damaged or needed to be replaced.
